# Repository Advocacy Use Cases

Why Invest in Repository Infrastructure and Services?

These use cases demonstrate how repository infrastructure, services and digital collections enable research, create institutional value, and generate wider societal impact. They show how investment in repositories supports research and innovation across disciplines while increasing the visibility, accessibility, and long-term value of collections and research outputs.

## Explore the use cases

The use cases are tagged by ***strategic themes*** such as Climate Impact, Citizen Science, Sustainability, Innovation, Equity, and Inclusion, and broad ***disciplinary areas***, including Science, Technology, and the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

These tags help highlight the breadth of repository impact and identify areas where further examples are needed. Click on card images below to explore the use cases.

## Who is this for?

This collection of use cases has been developed by CHOSN's [Working Group on Sustaining and Advocating for Repository Services](/chosn/working-groups.md#sustaining-and-advocating-for-repository-services) as a practical advocacy resource. It brings together real examples that repository managers, librarians, and research support professionals can use to communicate the value of repository services to senior leaders, funders, and other decision-makers. We see this as a collaborative resource and welcome additional examples from across the community.

## How to contribute?

We're keen to expand this collection and welcome contributions from across the GLAM sector. In particular, we'd like to include more examples from the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS), creative practice, community archives, a wider range of institution types, and strategic themes that are not yet represented.

If you have a use case you'd like to share or know of an example that others could learn from, we would love to hear from you. Please use this [**template**](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Iw4E3J4SsPoPaAE5DbwTy2w6py5JYhE7XqlLRoJAkZA/edit?usp=sharing) to develop your use case.

We also welcome feedback on how you have used these use cases, for example in advocacy, training, presentations or funding discussions. Please email us at openaccess \[at] bl.uk.
